IAPSM World Health Day Quiz-2024

Indian Association of Preventive & Social Medicine (IAPSM) celebrates World Health Day (WHD -7th April) every year by conducting quiz all over the India. This year World Health Day theme is “My Health - My Right". Department of Community Medicine in Government Medical College, Jayashankar Bhupalpally had taken part in this national wide quiz. 51 medical students pursuing 1st MBBS had taken part in this event enthusiastically as 17 teams. As a part of this quiz, Preliminary round was conducted on 2nd April 2024 containing 30 MCQ’s with 30 minutes duration from 10:00 - 10:30 AM. Among them top four teams were selected based on merit for the Final round which was conducted on 8th April 2024 with various rounds containing MCQ’s, visual round & rapid fire. Top-2 teams were selected based on the merit as 1st & 2nd winners and were awarded with mementos. Quiz questions were based on WHD – Themes - Community Medicine topics. This has led to build the enthusiasm, motivation towards academics among budding medical students & helped to improve their academic performance.

FAMILY ADOPTION PROGRAMME (FAP) 3rd VISIT ON 16-03-2024 IN BASWARAJPALLY

Medical students visited Baswarajpally village on 16-03-2024 as a part of Family Adoption Program (FAP). Adult males in the adoptive families were asked about any current health problems and were educated regarding services given in Govt. medical college and hospital, Jayashankar Bhupalpally. Past history of Communicable diseases (TB, Leprosy..), Non-communicable diseases (HTN, DM..) and treatment history was asked. If any lag or discontinuation in treatment was identified and motivated for regular treatment and follow-up. Their personal history regarding addictions was asked & its detrimental effects were explained. Basic general examination was conducted like checking for pallor, jaundice and measuring pulse rate, respiratory rate.

Adult females in the adoptive families were asked about menstrual history and upon identification of any problems they were told about obstetric and gynecology services given on the govt. hospital. Data on present pregnancy was collected among pregnant women and were motivated to undergo delivery in the government hospital. Information on Family planning practices in the families was collected. If they have completed their families; they were motivated to utilize family planning services in the govt. hospital. Women were examined for pallor, jaundice and checked pulse rate, respiratory rate.

NARCOTIC DRUGS AWARENESS PROGRAMME AT GOVERNMENT MEDICAL COLLEGE JAYASHANKAR BHUPALPALLY.

On 19/01/2024, an awareness conference was organized for medical students on the topic of anti-narcotic drugs at the Government Medical College in the district and Jayashanakar Bhupalpally SP Sri.Kiran Khare attended as the chief guest. Speaking on this occasion, the SP said that the Medical College students and youth should stay away from drugs and everyone should come forward as a social responsibility to get rid of it. He advised the students and youth to stay away from drugs and live a beautiful life happily and not let anything like narcotics come close to them. They want to study hard and not get into any bad habits and be in a high position.

The SP asked that an 'anti-drug committee' consisting of seven members has been formed in the college as the chairperson of the Principal and everyone should cooperate with the police to prevent the use and transportation of drugs. Medical College Principal Dr.Raju Devde, Bhupalapalli DSP A.Ramulu, Dr.G.Vandana, Nodal Officer Dr.K.Rajesham, Chityala CI Venu Chander, Ganapuram SI M.Sambamurthy, College faculty and students were participated in this Programme.

FAMILY ADOPTION PROGRAMME (FAP) 2nd VISIT ON 16/12/2023 IN BASWARAJPALLY

First year MBBS students visited Baswarajpally village as a part of Family Adoption Program (FAP). In this visit students collected data regarding dietary practices of adopted families. Food taboos were identified and addressed. Information on cooking practices was collected and over-washing & open pan cooking were discouraged as it leads to nutrient loss. Vital statistics data of the adopted families was collected. Healthcare utilization pattern was assessed and awareness and motivation was given to utilize health services given in Govt. medical college and hospital, Jayashankar Bhupalpally.

FAMILY ADOPTION PROGRAMME (FAP) - DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY MEDICINE - 2023 BATCH

Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College - Jayashankar Bhupalpally has identified Baswarajpally village which comes under Ghanpur mandal with population of 1,482 inhabiting in 387 houses which is 5km away from the medical college for Family adoption program (FAP) for 1st year MBBS students as a part of NMC curriculum. After permissions from respected principal Dr.Raju Devde and village sarpanch , visit to the village was done on 4th October 2023. Each Student adopted 3 families, whom they will follow throughout their MBBS course. FAP will improve the communication skills in students which is the back bone of medical profession. It will improve the empathy & compassion in medical students & aid them to understand the disease profile in rural settings. Students will offer guidance & counselling to the adoptive families and help them to navigate their healthcare needs. Spirit of doing something for the people and the country will improve in young students. So this program is useful in medical education and to the community.
